The Asia-Pacific Institute for Law and Security has been welcomed as a member of the Asia-Pacific Disarmament Education Network (APDEN), convened by the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD).
APDEN brings together institutions from across the region to exchange knowledge, build connections and strengthen disarmament and non-proliferation education. UNRCPD, a regional centre of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs based in Kathmandu, supports Asia-Pacific States in implementing measures for peace and disarmament. Education is one of its core areas of work.
Membership fits closely with APILS’s mission and expertise. Much of our work focuses on arms control law and the governance of emerging military technologies. Especially through our Law and the Future of War podcast, we seek to make this body of law more accessible to government officials, practitioners, students and the broader public. We look forward to working with UNRCPD and fellow member institutions to strengthen education on these issues across our region.
APDEN will hold its first online meeting on 22 October 2026. UNRCPD is also planning an in-person Regional Meeting in Kathmandu on 23–24 November 2026.
